Chateau Latour has both the longest history and the most reliable track record of any of the First Growths. Thanks to his intimate knowledge of and close contacts with the chateau, Michael Broadbent will present ten vintages shipped specially from their cellars.
Rioja has been for years – after claret – perhaps the Englishman’s favourite wine. But there’s been a revolution. While the traditional, soft, oak-accented style is still made and widely admired, Rioja today is made in a dizzying range of styles, from ultra-traditional to international; from regional blend to single vineyard; as a mono-varietal and as a sophisticated blend that might even contain French grapes.
Morey-Saint-Denis lies snugly at the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. It gives wines of incomparable lusciousness, silky texture, depth of fruit and complexity. Anthony Hanson, Master of Wine and Senior Consultant to Christie’s Wine Department, will present a range of his favourite Premiers and Grands Crus, from varied vintages and celebrated estates.
Described as "the greatest heatwave vintage since 1947, 1959 and 1989" and also as "over cooked and overripe" recent tastings have been showing much more positively. Only "Super Seconds" will be tasted.
The dark, brooding, majestic syrah grape of the Northern Rhone has long been held in reverent esteem, but this is just one facet of this Janus grape. Another is all vivacious bounce and irrepressible good humour; full of sunshine and warmth and labelled Shiraz. Botanically-speaking Syrah and Shiraz are one and the same grape, but oenologically they can and do produce very distinctly different wines. This tasting will illustrate the remarkable range of styles and the increasingly high quality of these wines from around the world.
The world’s greatest expert in Champagne will delight us once more with a cornucopia of the finest wines from the greatest vintages of the 21st century.
