Antiquity has provided a standard by which all subsequent periods have tended to be judged. The Jenkins Venus was thought during the neoclassical period to be the embodiment of love and beauty, so fundamental to contemporary ideas of art appreciation.

London Art Now: A Summer School in Contemporary Art

A five-day summer school is offered by Christie’s Education each July. London Art Now immerses students in the culture of contemporary art, the London art scene, and contemporary art-world practice.

Join us for a summer school in contemporary art using London as its classroom. A stimulating, accessible and informative series of specialist-led sessions will be held in important galleries, museum collections and temporary exhibitions, alongside visits to artists' studios, emerging galleries, and 'alternative' exhibition spaces. You will hear a range of voices, for example: the artist, the critic, the curator, the dealer, and the collector. There will also be unique opportunities for object handling, conservation study and analysis of the art market. A maximum of 24 summer school participants will ensure the exclusivity of the experience. The summer school welcomes students aged 18 years or over.

The idea of using 'London as our classroom' means that attending London Art Now will involve quite a lot of walking. Please ensure you are ready for this, with comfortable shoes and perhaps rainwear, bearing in mind the possibility that London's weather is sometimes unpredictable. We think you would also find it useful to purchase an 'Oyster Card' for the duration of the course. For details please visit Transport for London.
